I saw this and others like it on Friday night:
Late October is still way too early for holiday decorations - in fact, I think that seeing them anytime before December is too early. People complain about how the season is "too commercialised" but putting out decorations two months in advance seems like more commercialising, not less.

When do you take them down?
My parents usually take down their Christmas decorations in the early New Year and my grandparents are the same with theirs. On the other hand, I have observed some houses and stores that are still decorated...more than three weeks after Christmas, now.
When do you take down and put away your Christmas decorations?

Down went 2013's decorations
At long last, our decorations for Christmas 2013 have been taken down. Most of the other neighbourhood decorations have been down since the beginning of the year. Once again, the houses have returned to their standard cold weather look. The holiday season has reached its end here now.
This time, I am pleased to say that every Christmas decoration of ours has been accounted for and packed away; however, if one has somehow escaped, I shall be displeased, given that we've left at least one out for the past couple of years! All of mine are away, for sure.

Decorations 2013
It's that time of year again. Each day, another house in the neighbourhood puts up decorations. An assortment of snowmen, reindeer, Santas and festive lights has appeared in the past week. The neighbourhood decorating is still incomplete, though, for when I look out my window at night there are no decorations present. I expect this to change in the coming days.
As with last year, my family and I have not put up our decorations just yet. We'll most likely start that process next week. The vast majority of our decorations will be indoors but I think we will be putting up a couple of lights outside, too.

The purple house
Would you live in this house or one like it?
I was told about this house in the past couple of days. Even though purple is my favourite colour, when the house was described to me I was expecting the interior to be a hideous and eye-hurting shade of purple rather than one that's remarkably soft on a person's vision. Well, it appears that way in the pictures to me, anyway. I quite like it.
If you could live in a house with the same or similar paintwork as the one above, either in purple or another colour, would you? Imagine that resale value isn't a concern, too (although the purple house might be okay in that respect).

Fan with a hat
Okay, yes, I know they're silly but...another hat post!
This is my bedroom fan wearing my Jubilee hat. The hat is not the only item that my fan is wearing: can you spot a left over Christmas decoration from last year?

Santa and house decoration
It's more than two months after Christmas, and my brother has discovered that he left one of his decorations out, his plastic Santa/house ornament:
Along with the angel I'm currently keeping safe, it'll have to remain out all year and won't get put away until Christmas 2013 ends, at which time we'll have to triple check to ensure that no decorations are left out!

Small Christmas tree 2012
My family and I assembled our own Christmas trees this year, repeating what we did in 2009 and 2011. We collected some decent branches from outside, allowed them to dry in the garage and then placed them into some suitable jars or pots. We built two trees; this is the smaller one, which my brother decorated:
Unfortunately, taking a picture of the larger tree would show too much of our living room, so only the lesser tree will have its image here. However, I am happy to send a picture of the larger tree - and more pictures of this tree - to anybody who requests it; the larger tree is impressive, but then again, I am biased because I decorated it!
There is something more satisfying about constructing a tree over going out and buying one. I don't like killing a tree for only a couple of weeks at a certain time of the year, and a fake tree doesn't feel right either. These branches may be unusual, and perhaps not as visually appealing as a regular tree, but I love them all the same.
