Gedling village

This evening, I visited an area of Nottingham I'd not been to: Gedling. Now, I've been to the Gedling district before, as it's where Calverton is located, but this was Gedling village, an area of the eastern part of Nottingham. Overall, I'm not really familiar with the south-of-Arnold areas of eastern Nottingham, mostly because I'd not really had a reason to go there; this evening, however, I was doing some exploring and testing out the bus routes over there.

Gedling is similar to Calverton in that both areas are quite rural and there are hills nearby. It's actually one of the prettiest parts of the city that I've seen. I'll have to post pictures from an earlier time in the day, rather than late dusk.

Like "Bliss"

This morning, while my mother and I were out walking on the local fields, I photographed this view:

The field, with its hill and cloudy blue sky, I think resembles the iconic "Bliss" desktop background picture from Microsoft Windows XP.

I used the HDR filter of the app SnapSeed to enhance the image.

Path through the barley

Not too long ago, I walked on this path through a field of barley:

Yes, that's a deliberate reference to a Sting song.

Bakewell

Today, I rode, from Derby bus station after a ride on Indigo, the Sixes 6.1 to Bakewell, a town in Derbyshire. Here is a picture overlooking the town:

My visit to Bakewell was short, as it was carnival day and the town was packed; not only that but the bus route was blocked after I arrived. For a while I was concerned that I wouldn't have been able to have returned to my bus interchange in Derby; fortunately, the Sixes 6.1 returned and I was able to leave Bakewell. I will visit there again on another day, when I won't be worrying about carnivals.

The Sixes 6.1 is a fun bus route because not only did it feature plenty of beautiful scenery, it also travelled through Matlock and Matlock Bath, the latter of which I visited in 2012 and 2013.

The Calverton greens

I visited Calverton last week and took another shot of the greens surrounding the town:

Calverton is one of the prettiest places around here and its bus link is a fun ride in itself. To anyone visiting Nottingham, I certainly recommend a trip to Calverton.

Through Cotgrave

When I returned to Nottingham after my third half-term last year, I took a photo in Cotgrave. I thought I'd do the same again this year:

Unlike in 2015, however, this time we did not stop in the town, hence the vehicle-based image; in addition, this is my second photograph of the return, not the first. The weather is similar, though.

Above Britain

On the flight to Poland, I considered myself fortunate to have a window seat. In the parts of the flight when it was still daylight, I observed the landscape, such as this view of a British town:

Given that this was taken high up in the air, through a window and with my phone, I am impressed that this photograph turned out so well. The only downside is that I do not know what town this is, as there was no accessible wifi and my phone was in "airplane mode", thus unable to access mobile data, so I couldn't pinpoint on a map where my plane's location was.

Rolling greens

A gap in today's clouds allowed me to photograph the local green and rolling fields:

A few moments later, a cloud covered the Sun and shrouded the fields in darkness.

The Calverton Connection

I added a new town and bus route to my list today: I visited Calverton - a town to the north-east of Nottingham - via the Calverton Connection route provided by Trentbarton. The journey there lasted about forty minutes and I then enjoyed a pleasant walk around the town. The landscape on the way there and back was also something to behold:

I was unable to properly photograph the landscape on the outgoing journey but on my return trip to Nottingham I ensured I sat in a seat that allowed me to take excellent shots like this one. The rolling hills, trees and background buildings make for fine scenery.

As I said before, I enjoyed the scenery. In the second picture, that's Nottingham itself in the background. I think these are good pictures for a phone taken on a moving bus.

The field of the crater

This is a view of the area of the field in which the crater from yesterday's post is located:

That spire in the background is the town church.

When walking across a field this afternoon I encountered this:

I'm unsure how this depression came to develop. It could have been a meteor hit or the result of an extended sit by a small elephant. A mystery of life, perhaps?

The clouds and the house

I recently photographed this cloud formation over a house, during which the Sun was hiding but its rays were visible:

 This is the picture in its normal - albeit cropped - form.

Now this is it through an HDR filter. The rays are much more visible through the filter.

The Retrolux filter provides the image with an "aged" feel; however, it's fairly neutral with regards to what emotions it evokes.

By contrast, the black-and-white filter shrouds the picture with a menacing quality.

Cloudy Wollaton

I recently walked to Wollaton Hall from Nottingham's city centre. Looks a little different from what I'm used to:

The rain forced me to wait under a tree for over ten minutes while it passed over the vicinity. The Sun was out intermittently throughout the day.

The stairwell view

We had an absolutely beautiful morning here in Nottingham today. Here is a picture I took towards the city centre from one of my college's stairwells:

In the afternoon, a friend and I walked around the city for a bit, both to shop a little and to enjoy the sunshine.

Walk to Wallaton Hall

Remember this place?

It's Wollaton Park and in the distance is Wollaton Hall. Prior to yesterday, I last visited here in the summer of 2013, when I was with my Nottingham aunt, uncle and cousins. When I visited yesterday, I walked all the way there; it's not quite as far as Hucknall but it's still a worthy walk.

Two evening bus views

On my two recent nights out, I ensured that I took at least one evening photo on each of my buses to the city centre:

As can be evidenced from these photos, it was sunny with some clouds on the first night and completely overcast on the second. Surprisingly, the images also show that the first night was blurry while the second featured laser lights across roofs.

HDR city centre

Nearly a week ago, I photographed the city centre in the early and cloudy evening:

Afterwards, I put the image through the Snapseed phone app and added an HDR filter. What do you think? I have not shrunk this image so it can be opened and zoomed.

Nottingham in the distance

This isn't a great picture but it's of Nottingham in the distance:

Obviously, the city can be seen in the upper left corner of the image as Nottingham is not an empty field. I was on a bus that was leaving the city when I took this photograph.
