In motion

In yesterday's piece, I posted a picture of a pub in Coventry. That picture was taken while my Dad's car was in motion. Here are two more pictures I took while the car was moving:

This is the Ramada hotel near the centre of Coventry; it's a fairly plain but noticeable building on the Coventry skyline. I think I might have posted a picture of it before.

This is outside Coventry along the route we take to there and back; it's at the Catthorpe Interchange, which is the junction that connects the M1 motorway (seen in the distance) with the A14 dual-carriageway and the M6 motorway. This area is currently undergoing upgrades.

Both of these pictures and the one from yesterday were taken using my phone. I think these are decent images given that my phone was having some difficulty focusing while in a moving car.

Coventry pub

We went to Coventry this afternoon and ate at this pub, The City Arms:

We've been to this pub a few times; it's spacious and the food there is of fairly decent quality. I've never had any problems. We went there today because I had a meetup.

Bee in Coventry

Dad, my brother and I were all in Coventry yesterday afternoon. Dad and my brother took several pictures while we were all there; one picture was this:

A bee, or rather, a bumblebee, as my brother reckoned it was. It's probably the only bee that has ever "posed" for a picture rather than fly away! My brother obtained three pictures of this bee.

I like how "Bee in Coventry" rhymes, too.

"Soak Up the Sun" - Sheryl Crow

I only have time for a short post tonight, and it's a music link. Here is "Soak Up the Sun" by Sheryl Crow:

It's an appropriate song because the daylight weather today was wonderful. Clear blue skies from morning until the late afternoon, followed by a moderately cloudy evening which illuminated the sky with a beautiful orange colour when the Sun set. I spent the afternoon in Coventry meeting with friends and definitely had a good day.

The stargate

On our route from Northamptonshire to Coventry we take the M6, a motorway on the west side of England, for a part of the way there. A few months ago while travelling on this route, Dad noticed a "stargate" from the Stargate SG-1 series in a nearby field close to Coventry. I recently managed to photograph the stargate:

There is even a replica "dial-home device" from the show, too. The whole place looks as though it is staging area for dogs to play or perform, but it is difficult to tell from a distance. Whatever the purpose is, I think it is both fascinating to see a "real-life" stargate and creative that someone took the time to construct it...it is a type of object that is highly unusual to see anywhere!

Second Coventry trip

I went to Coventry again today, for the same reasons as the last time. I did not take as many pictures on this occasion, but I did get a one of a random spire in the city (I do not know what the building is called, I just wanted to take a picture of it). I will have another post about the trip tomorrow.

Coventry pictures

I selected eleven pictures from our visit to Coventry yesterday: six are from me and five are from my brother. While slightly more of my pictures have been included in this post, my brother photographed more than I did because I spent most of our time in Coventry indoors at the meet with my friends.

These are the images I took; all were done with my phone:

A "Welcome to Coventry" sign, taken from within our car.

This is a lot where we parked at temporarily before we found a parking garage located near the middle of Coventry. The tall building in the left/middle part of the background is a Ramada Inn, and the larger buildings to the right are related to Coventry's rugby.

A road my brother, Dad, and I were walking alongside towards the city centre. I do not know what the names of any of the buildings in this picture are.

This picture is an odd one: it was taken from the top of the parking garage our car was ultimately parked at, and done while our car was in motion. Rather than turn out as a blur, the camera on my phone seemed to compensate for pictures taken inside a moving car by having everything in the image appear "wavy". I think it is neat, and better than a blur.

I think this is King Richard Street, or Road. I took the picture while our car was stopped in traffic.

Contrary to what the sign says, there were no accidents in that direction: we were just paused in traffic again. I wanted to get a couple of pictures of the houses in the background, and have one that included the sign.

The rest of the pictures were taken by my brother. He mainly photographed the area around Coventry Cathedral:

A view over towards the old Coventry Cathedral. The building was mostly destroyed when Coventry was bombed during World War II, but parts of it, such as the spire, still remain to this day.

This is a picture of a pub in the vicinity of the cathedral.

My brother said that this is another part of the old Coventry Cathedral.

Another picture of the spire for the old cathedral. Yesterday really was an ideal day to get some great pictures.

These are the roofless ruins of the old cathedral. I hope to see the cathedrals for myself in a future trip to Coventry.

That brings us to the end of this post. I hope you liked the pictures: I can say that while I am pleased with the ones I took, I am impressed with the ones from my brother!

Coventry

Dad, my brother, and myself all went to Coventry this morning and spent the entire afternoon there (I was meeting up with some friends). My brother and I took a lot of pictures during out visit, and I will be putting in a few for tomorrow's post.
