The moorhens

The pond I frequently visit is home to a moorhen and her chick; I finally took some pictures of them this afternoon:

Moorhens are deeply shy: every time I've walked past the pond when the moorhens have been out they disappear into the reeds. To successfully photograph them, I had my camera ready before I reached the water; I managed to get a few pictures of the moorhens before they hid.

      I hadn't heard of them until I heard about them living in this pond. :)
