Where did that come from? (2)

After a good night's sleep, today I awoke feeling greatly improved from yesterday. While I have a minor cough and a slightly runny nose, the bruised head feeling has been erased and I no longer ache. I was able to attend college today without any health issues whatsoever; I helped out with raising money for charity again.

Hopefully, after another night of good sleep, I should feel even better tomorrow.

Charity event and open evening

Last Thursday evening, the trainee teacher in some of my lessons asked me if I and any of my classmates would be willing to help her with raising money for a charity she's working with. I agreed and so on Friday she presented her project to the class; a few people signed on and so today, two of my class mates and I helped the trainee out for over a couple of hours. We raised between £40 and £50 for the charity, which meant the event was a success and we intend to hold another session tomorrow.

In the late afternoon/early evening, I helped out with an open evening my college was holding. As a Student Ambassador, one of my tasks is to help out at such promotional events when possible. My main task, along with the other two Ambassadors who were present, was to direct people to the gym (where information desks were situated) or to the photography building on the campus; I also spoke to people while guiding them, either about how they came across my college and/or about my experiences as to help them decide whether or not to apply.

The open evening was highly successful; we experienced a high turnout and near the end of the event, I had a fifteen-minute talk with a potential student who wanted to study the course I'm on now. One of my teachers had recommended they speak to me and I think I represented my college and course beyond sufficiently. My performance was praised by members of staff who organised the event, with one remarking that I had been "lovely".

The charity night lady

Back in February, my class held a charity night as a part of our Employability subject. I spent the day at my college itself, even though I didn't have to. On the way back home from college that evening to change before heading out to my event, I sat next to a lady on the bus whom I spoke to as we travelled down a narrow part of the route, which was made narrower when the bus had to squeeze between two cars. We spoke again when I was unsure at which stop I was to depart, as I had taken a slightly different route to the one I usually took at the time; she advised me where I'd be able to leave.

My contact with her for much of the year has been sparse but I've seen her much more since September, mainly because we frequently ride the 4:45 bus together thanks to the bus route changes. In the past couple of weeks, we have talked a little but this evening, we talked from where our route began to where I had to depart, which meant that we were talking for over half an hour. We then exchanged names at the end and mutually felt good for chatting.

I would like to think that I have made a new friend. People on the bus have occasionally spoken to me but she's one of a handful of people I've had a conversation with that's lasted the whole route and one of a smaller group with whom I've had in-depth discussions while travelling. There is a running joke between us about half the ceiling lights on the bus turning off for no reason down the same narrow route where the cars were.

Charity reflection

I am in the process of writing a reflection piece to hand in for Employability tomorrow. One of our assignments was to write about the charity events we organised early this year and about what we had learned from them.

Last week, I handed in a reflection piece about my experiences during my course and how I am a different person now as to when I started. My Employability teacher loved last week's piece and I hope she'll be satisfied with this one, too.

Event success

Last night's off-campus charity event organised by my friends and me was a success. It was the fourth and final charity event for my class as a part of the Employability segment of our college course. We raised money for a charity dedicated to improving the lives of disabled people and their families, and we held it at a fancy pub; we raised almost £300 and still have more to add to the count. Everyone had an amazing time and it was all for a worthy cause.

The class had been divided into four groups during this part of Employability and this last group was the one of which I was a part, alongside two of my friends/classmates. Still, all four groups helped one another, as we do in class. I think it was an excellent ending to this unit of Employability.

As nearly all of the pictures I took feature my friends and/or family, I am unable to post any of them here, per my own rules about respecting other people's privacy.

Fourth and final

Tomorrow is when the fourth and final group charity event for my class takes place, as a part of our Employability lessons. As it just so happens, the fourth group is the one of which I am a part. The group I'm with is the only one that chose to hold its charity event off-campus; in this case, a fancy pub with a booked room.

I'll post sometime tomorrow, either during a break (assuming there is one) when I'm helping to prepare the room or at a time after the event.
